We have several fun events in July which means several fun volunteer opportunties!

East Portland Expo – Volunteers needed to staff a Growing Gardens information table:

Ed Benedict Park - SE 100th & Powell Blvd.

Table shifts:

Saturday, July 17:

  • 11am-2pm
  • 2pm-5pm
  • 5pm-7pm

Sunday, July 18:

  • 10am-1pm
  • 1pm-4pm
  • 4pm-7pm

The East Portland Exposition (EPO XPO) is a two day community event co-sponsored by all 13 East Portland Neighborhoods. The event will feature numerous exhibitors, lots of entertainment and food, free health testing, and free activities for children and families. This year, EPO XPO will be partnering with the City of Portland for the very first Sunday Parkways in East Portland - and EPO XPO will be at the heart of it all! Sunday Parkways is great fun for everyone. So come to EPO XPO on Saturday to visit all the great exhibitors, and enjoy some great food and entertainment. Be sure to stay for the movie that evening starting at dusk. Then, on Sunday, come join the festivities for the single best day of the Summer - East Portland style!

Volunteer bicyclists needed to represent GrowingGardens on Sunday Parkways

Meeting place at Ed Benedict Park - SE 100th & Powell Blvd.

Sunday, July 18

  • 10am-12:30pm
  • 12:30pm-3pm

A 2-way route of city streets open to walk, bike, roll, run, jump & skip - without having to watch out for cars! The 6-mile East Portland Sunday Parkways route will have two loops, connecting Ed Benedict (and the East Portland Exposition), Bloomington and Lents Parks, plus the I-205 and Springwater multi-use paths. Food, music and activities are located in the parks and along the route.

We're organizing a caravan of Growing Gardens volunteers to bike the Sunday Parkways loops. We'll provide Growing Gardens signs to attach to bikes, a live garden cart full of vegetable plants that will be attached to one bike as well as vegetable costumes and adornments. You provide the bike, pedal power and enthusiasm to promote Growing Gardens and have a fun.
